James Rice is an active collaborative pianist and educator. He holds a masters in Collaborative Piano from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and a bachelors in music education from the University of Tennessee.

James has also continued to stay active through workshops locally and internationally. An active accompanist in the Triangle, he is an experienced church musician, vocal coach, and instrumental accompanist. As James works in multiple styles, he brings and welcomes that diversity into his studio.

As a young person, he studied Suzuki piano, and is proud to be a Suzuki registered teacher through book three. As a teacher, James has enjoyed working with both Suzuki and traditional methods in the Chapel Hill area as well as in Knoxville, TN.

James encourages his students towards well-rounded musicianship and believes in creating a positive and safe learning environment. He also works to realize each student’s individual goals, and believes that every child has the capability to make meaningful music.

James and his wife have lived in Chapel Hill since 2010, and are excited to return after spending the spring and summer abroad for research and language study.
